Schoenbrunn Village Lantern Tour, Saturday May 19th!

The first Lantern Tour at the Village is coming up. On Saturday, May 19th, from 7 - 10 pm, the Village will host the first of 3 Lantern Tours for 2012. There will be interpreters in all the cabins demonstrating 18th Century life with an emphasis on the Moravian Delaware culture. I will be there along with Lee McBee and Roy Howman demonstrating 18th Century frontier skills. It's a fun night for the family and once dark, you can tour the Village with candle lanterns! Please stop by if your in the area, an admission fee applies.

Raffle fowler

I now have in my possession, our custom made English fowler made by Ken Netting for this year's Raffle. It is another beautiful firearm. I will post photos in another post but here are the specifics:

Hand made 50" .62 caliber round tapered barrel made by Mr. Netting! His barrels shoot fantastic!
Stocked in cherry with engraved brass furniture.
Jim Chambers firelock, engraved by Ken.
Stock has relief carving at tang with wrist inlay for your initials!

Tickets are being printed now, only 1000 will be sold. Priced at $5 per ticket or 3 for $10! I should have them by next week. I will post information on Frontier Folk for ticket sales and Mike Pullins, Ohio Valley p
Peddler, will also be selling them for us.

With the weather turning warmer, Schoenbrunn is preparing for another season of living history. Their first event will be the spring Lantern Tour on Saturday, May 19th. The tour begins at 7 pm till 10 pm. This is always a great time with the flowers in bloom and the cabins open for the first time since last years Trade Fair! I will be holding the first meeting of the year with the Village Staff prior to the Lantern Tour starting. We will be discussing everything from problems last year and ways to fix them to firewood supply, outside the Village vendors, schedules for the weekend, etc. If you are in the area, stop by and enjoy a nice evening at the Village.

New Philly Patriot Day

This Saturday, February 25th, Dennison Train Depot and Schoenbrunn Village will hold the 2nd. annual Patriot Day at the New Town mall in New Philadelphia, Ohio. It runs from 9-4 PM. It is a history time line for students that will have French and Indian War up thru WWII living history demonstrations. It's a very nice event and it's inside! If your in the area, stop by, you don't have to be a student to have fun!

Tickets will go on sale around May 1st. $5 each or 3 for $10! Pretty good deal when you look at what you can win. Just like last year, tickets can be purchased directly from me, checks made out to JOHN JOHNSON, or Mike Pullins and others will sell them at events. As we get closer to the kick off date, I'll have more information. See you around at events!

2012 Trade fair Update

The Trade fair Committee has contracted with Ken Netting for an English Fowler for the grand prize for the 2012 Trade fair raffle. The fowler, which will be done around April 2012, will have a 50" .62 caliber round barrel made by Mr. Netting, Chambers round faced lock, stocked in cherry with brass furniture. In addition, other prizes we have commitments for are an 18th century plate by Amanda Lipps of Common Ground Pottery, Several items from Randy Wolf, Bethel Forge, including a folding knife, wallet, and hand forged trivet. Bushnell Bottle has donated a very nice 18th century glass bottle for the raffle. Wild Willy will be doing a horn bowl with fork and knife, Darrel Lang of Leathers from the Past will be supplying one of his great leather items, Hidden Dirk Mercantile will be supplying an item yet to be determined. I will be working with several other vendor's to see if we can get more prizes.
As more information is available, I will post it on this site. Have a warm and safe winter and I'll see some of you at the Fremont Trade Fair in February.

Happy Holiday's!

The holiday season is upon us and Mary and I hope all of you have a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year. It will be time for our 4th annual trade fair at Schoenbrunn before you know it with planning in full swing. The fair committee will be meeting with Ken Netting next week to procure our Fowler for this year's raffle and many other Vendor's have already donated items for 2012! We will make every effort to make the 2012 Trade Fair even better than last year's event and I look forward to seeing you all again in the Village.

Mary and I will be traveling to Dennison, Ohio this weekend for their annual Polar Express event. Mary, being a children's Librarian, will be one of the many story tellers on hand for the event. It should be a huge success again this year. If you can, stop by and say hello. The event is at the Dennison Train Depot Museum this Saturday and Sunday. Check out their web site for more details.

Time to start the Christmas shopping so I have to run. Winter well and we'll be back soon!
